How to automatically send direct messages in Slack as a bot every time there's a new submission in Fillout

Relay.app is an automation tool that lets you automate actions across Slack, Fillout, and many other apps. In this guide, we'll show you how to automatically run the “send message” action in Slack for each new submission in Fillout using Relay.app.

Set the Fillout trigger as “New submission”

A playbook always starts with a trigger, which is responsible for detecting changes in your connected applications and responding accordingly.

Add the Fillout trigger to initiate your playbook's actions every time there's a new submission. Click "Add trigger" in your playbook and choose "New submission" from the dropdown menu under Fillout.

If you still need to connect your Fillout account to Relay.app yet, a prompt will guide you through the process.

2

Add the “Send DM as Bot” step in Slack

Integrate the Slack automation into your playbook to ensure the prompt sending of direct messages in Slack as a bot every time there's a new submission in Fillout.

Click the "Add step" button, locate the “Send DM as Bot” automation for Slack, and input the mandatory and relevant details.

If your Slack account still needs to be connected to Relay.app, you will be prompted to complete that connection. Make sure to allow the necessary permissions for Relay.app to sync with your Slack account.

3

Activate your playbook

Activating your playbook is the last step in the process. Once you turn it on, it will automatically send direct messages in Slack as a bot every time there's a new submission in Fillout without requiring manual intervention.

To activate your playbook, click the toggle button at the header. Before activating, we recommend performing a test run of your playbook to ensure all the steps work seamlessly together.
